Rock Band 2 bundle

The "Rock Band 2" bundle ($190) is available now for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PS2, but the Wii version won't be available until after Christmas (Dec. 30). The good news is that if your gift recipients already have the original "Rock Band" bundle, you can give just the game ($50-$60; PS2 and Wii versions coming Dec. 16) and they can use the old instruments to play.
Nintendo's flagship console also has a new exclusive title in the genre: "Wii Music" ($50). By manipulating the Wii's motion-activated controllers in different ways, users can "play" more than 60 musical instruments and even record and mix their results. Is it really a game? Not so much, but it can quickly enliven a roomful of spectators.
Another flagship series -- this one in the singing-only subgenre -- has returned with "Karaoke Revolution Presents American Idol Encore 2" ($50 for 360, PS3 and Wii), with many songs made popular by the hit TV show. But PlayStation owners have many more karaoke choices thanks to several new releases in Sony's engaging rival series: "SingStar, Vol. 2" ($60 for PS3), "SingStar Legends" and "SingStar Country" ($30 each for PS2) and, capitalizing on the "Mamma Mia" craze, "SingStar Abba," coming Dec. 2 ($30-$40 for PS2 and PS3).
For tweens, the most popular karaoke choice might be "Disney Sing It" ($40-$60 for all home consoles), which features songs from Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana, the Jonas Brothers, "Camp Rock" and "High School Musical." Disney also has a casual version of the rock-band games for the Wii that uses virtual instruments, "Ultimate Band" ($50), with a companion DS version ($30) that can join in wirelessly.

Halo 3: Recon no master chief

Halo 3: Recon is your old version of Halo 3 with a new face. There have been no changes to the standard Halo formula as you’ll still be in first person view mode for optimal bastard blasting. The one difference Bungie’s stressing is that since you’re taking control of an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper (ODST) you won’t be able to run and gun quite as easily as the super-hero soldier Master Chief. Instead you’ll have to choose your battles wisely which is probably how the title “recon” comes into play. What you’ll specifically be doing is wiping clean the covenant infested city of New Mombasa from behind enemy lines in plenty of dark, nighttime settings. Also, don’t expect cameos from Master Chief or anyone else from the normal Halo proper as they are off doing their own thing when this game takes place.

Xbox 360

There's no denying that Gears of War 2 will be the standout Xbox 360 exclusive this Fall when it releases on November 7, but is it just a game? Or is it more?
Epic Games' Cliff Bleszinski believes that Gears of War 2 is "no longer a game: it’s a platform."
What does he mean by this?
Simply put, Cliff feels that the game is so huge and offers so much gameplay that it'll be something that gamers will "play for months, if not years, to come.” In addition to the 2-player co-op campaign, Gears 2 will feature a co-op "Horde" mode as well as several new adversarial modes.

Halo 4 Rumor

The Halo series of games has been a staple for Microsoft and the Xbox. While Bungie has been the company responsible for the three games so far released in the series, it could be that the reins have now been handed over to Gearbox for Halo 4. And what’s more, the release of that game could be on a console other than the Xbox 360.
Rumours are rife in the games industry right now. Be it over price cuts coming to the Xbox 360 along with a motion-sensing controller, whether Nintendo is already working on its next home console, and if it’s true that Shigeru Miyamoto wears women’s clothing. Okay, I made that last one up, but it’ll probably do the rounds now anyway.

new Halo spin-off

The new Halo spin-off will be like "a cross between Ghost Recon and Gears of War." Sounds like a winning combination but also, like Gears of War, the new title will be "less cartoony" and will feature a "more bloody, violent, and grim" battle between UNSC forces and the Covenant.

PlayStation 3 firmware

Sony has pulled the latest PlayStation 3 firmware update after complaints that it is causing problems with the game console and sometimes bricking (cannot function in any capacity) PS3s. It's unclear how widespread the problem is. Sony claims problems with its PS3 firmware (2.4) have only affected an isolated number of customers' machines.

Weapons in Halo 3

Weapons in Halo 3
Magnum - The Magnum is much improved since Halo 2, dishing out slower, more punishing shots. But it’s still not back to Halo 1 strength, as the clip currently carries just eight rounds and you can’t zoom in. Still a nice, precise choice for dual-wield combos.
Energy Sword - The infamous Sword gets two tweaks aimed at balancing its overwhelming power. One change is a brief weapon-switch delay. The second adjustment is more controversial: the Energy Sword now has an ammo meter that depletes with each attack, which keeps players from hoarding it indefinitely.

Halo 2

Speaking in an interview published Monday, Cowan admitted that disorganization reigned during certain parts of Halo 2's development, as Bungie tried to create a blockbuster game while simultaneously coping with exploding studio growth.“On Halo 2 we had no idea what our schedule was like or if we were on schedule or how far behind schedule we were," he said. "...Up until Halo 3’s pre-production we were still in the mindset of guys in a basement trying to make games even though we’d ballooned to like 60 or 70 dudes. We still had that idea that ‘hey we can make this work,' but it just wasn’t realistic anymore."

Sony's PlayStation 3

Shipments of Sony's PlayStation 3 surpassed Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT)'s Xbox 360 in February, as videogame console sales rose 19% year-over-year, a market research firm said.
Sony shipped 280,800 PS3s during the month, beating the 254,600 units of Xbox 360 shipped by Microsoft, the NPD Group said Monday. Surpassing both consoles, however, was the Wii. Nintendo shipped 432,000 of the lower-priced consoles favored by casual gamers.
Videogame consoles sold well in general in February, as sales rose to $480 million from $402.3 million a year ago. Even more impressive, however, were videogame sales, which soared 47% to $668.7 million from $453.7 million a year ago.

good year for gamers

By most standards, 2007 was a pretty good year for gamers. Gamepad crushers feasted on the likes of The Orange Box, Crysis, Bio-Shock and who can forget the little matter of Halo 3 or the staggering success of the Nintendo Wii. Sure, Hellgate: London was not exactly Diablo 3, most movie-oriented games continued to suck, and the PlayStation 3 was as heavy on the purse as on the specs . All in all, if 2007 was a fish, gamers sure would not have chucked it back in the water.
